Kids Who Serve

This past Sunday I had the pleasure of being the large group speaker for 45th Street, our 4th and 5th grade Sunday school time. We talked about the story of David being anointed as the next king of Israel after King Saul began disobeying God's commands. David was between the ages of 10 and 15 when he was anointed the next king. so we spent the Sunday school hour talking about how when you are young, sometimes others make immediate judgments about your abilities or look down on you and think you are incapable because you are smaller or have less experience. 

Well the children of RPC know this is not true of them. Last week our 3-year-old through 5th graders spent their Wednesday evening gathering food for North Fulton Community Charities. They collected canned goods, bagged 300 pounds of beans and rice, and readied all of this for transportation to NFCC. When these items arrived at NFCC, their gratitude was immense and overwhelming. They told us that they are in great need right now and this was an incredible blessing for them. All because of our children!

On Sunday morning, several of our 4th and 5th graders and their families went down to First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta at 6am to serve breakfast to the homeless. Some of our kids even handed out every last piece of their Halloween candy to the men and women who had come for breakfast. These children graciously served early Sunday morning and then came to Sunday school to hear about how their age should never hinder them from living a Christ-like life, something they already knew and had acted on that morning.

The children of this church are exceptional and are learning every day what it means to have Christ in their hearts. They know that at this church we believe that just because they are young does not mean they cannot serve others and walk with Christ in their lives.
