Fall 2013 onCore!

Wednesdays for Kids!

Term 1: August 21, 2013 - November 20, 2013

Even if you are an onCore veteran, look over this information! There are lots of exciting changes happening to onCore this year!

Building relationships is what onCore is all about!

onCore is our Wednesday evening program for children!
The onCore program provides in-depth, well-rounded Christian nurture for
children. It encourages the growth of church-family relationships which bond the entire congregation into an authentic community of faith. OnCore does not replace Sunday School or Worship; rather, it enhances the overall church experience and faith development for children and families.

The participation of parents is critical to the success of onCore. At least one parent from each family participating is required to help with the program. This not only provides the staffing necessary to provide an excellent experience, but it also demonstrates the parents’ belief in the importance of the Christian
nurture to the children. Participation can be achieved in a variety of ways.

All volunteers are required to attend a volunteer training session in order to meet with your leadership team member, receive needed materials, hear and sign our Child Protection Policy, etc. We will have 2 options this year:
Thursday, August 15, 6:30-7:30p.m.
Sunday, August 25, 8:30-9:30a.m.
childcare available at both sessions. Please let us know which session you will attend.

What Happens at onCore?

Children begin the evening at 4:45p.m. with family-style dinner in the Fellowship Hall. They receive a table assignment with other children and ‘table parents’. These groups enjoy their dinner together, talk about their days, and play a table game.

At 5:25p.m. children disperse to either choir or Bible time for 25 minutes, then switch to the other activity. Bible lessons on Wednesdays this year are going to be expansions of the lessons done on Sunday mornings in Sunday school with the Grow. Proclaim. Serve curriculum. Bible lessons will follow more of a rotation-model which will help children dig deeper into the Bible story they heard on Sunday through video episodes, games, activities, and more!

Extended electives for elementary children begin at 6:30 p.m. in their respective rooms and switch at 7p.m. Dismissal happens at 7:30p.m. for children who stay through extended electives.

6:30-7p.m.: F2 Leadership for 4th and 5th Graders, Drums, Art
7-7:30p.m.: Hand Chimes, Basketball/Recreation

*Changes to fees this year: Costs of onCore will apply to 3-year-olds. 3-year-olds will have a more directed Bible time this year and will be following the same curriculum/Bible stories as the preschool and elementary onCore children. Nursery children continue to be free of charge including dinner (only available to volunteers). You must still make childcare and nursery meal reservations for your children under 3 years old.
